10. What are the differences between high talent and excellent talent?

11. If my child wants to take the joint entrance examination as an overseas Chinese student, does he need to give up his mainland Chinese citizenship?
-
You don’t have to give up. But if your child wants to take the joint entrance exam as an overseas Chinese student, then he or she must give up.
12. After obtaining Hong Kong identity, do I need to give up my mainland identity?
-
There are 3 free options to choose from:

13. After obtaining Hong Kong citizenship, what should I do with mainland China’s social security pension?
-
If the insured person goes abroad to settle down before retirement, the balance in the social security personal account can be returned to the insured person and the pension insurance relationship will be terminated at the same time; but the insured person can also choose to continue to keep the account, continue to pay premiums for 15 years, and receive a normal pension after retirement.
14. If a talent candidate is approved, will he/she be issued a Hong Kong temporary identity card?
-
No. There is no such thing as a temporary identity card in Hong Kong. There are two types of Hong Kong identity cards: one is the Hong Kong Resident Identity Card and the other is the Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card. After the talent review is passed, you will receive a Hong Kong Resident Identity Card. After seven years, you can apply for a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card.
15. After obtaining a Talent Visa, do I need to enter Hong Kong to activate it?
-
Required.
-
Now the Talent Visa has been changed to an electronic visa; the payment period for the electronic visa can be extended to 6 months after receiving the visa; after paying the fee, you are given another 6 months to enter Hong Kong, activate the visa, and apply for a Hong Kong identity card, etc. Therefore, from getting the official visa to entering the country to start, the longest time can be one year, which is more controllable.
-
Landing in Hong Kong to activate the visa is the only way to truly obtain Hong Kong identity. If you do not land and activate it within the specified time, the visa will become invalid. If the Immigration Department does not agree to reissue it after it expires, you will need to go through the application process again.
-
You can apply for a Hong Kong identity card on the day of entry into Hong Kong (appointment must be made in advance), and you must activate the Talent Visa before you can apply for an ID.
16. What are the requirements for renewal of the Talent Visa?
-
The visa needs to be renewed twice in 7 years, usually in the form of 3+3+2 years/3+5 years or based on whether the normal residence requirement or other conditions are met.
-
Approved entrants to the Scheme under the General Points Test are generally allowed to stay in Hong Kong for 36 months on their first visit without being subject to other stay conditions. When they apply for an extension of stay at the end of their first 36-month stay, they must provide documentary evidence satisfactory to the Immigration Department that they have taken steps towards settling in Hong Kong and are residing in Hong Kong, such as obtaining a paid employment or establishing a business. To be eligible for a further extension of stay, approved entrants to the Scheme under the General Points Test must provide documentary evidence satisfactory to the Immigration Department that they have: settled in Hong Kong; and have made contributions to Hong Kong, such as holding a paid position at degree level, expert level or senior level, or establishing a business of reasonable scale in Hong Kong.
-
If the extension of stay application is approved, the applicant will usually be allowed to stay in Hong Kong for 3-2 years without being subject to other stay conditions.
-
Note: Usually the visa is renewed in the 3+3+2 model. If after working in Hong Kong for 3 years, your annual income reaches 2 million, you can obtain a one-time 5-year visa renewal, which is the 3+5 model.
17. If you obtain Hong Kong citizenship, can your spouse, children and parents come to Hong Kong to settle down?
-
When obtaining a Hong Kong Resident Identity Card, the spouse and unmarried children under the age of 18 will be issued a visa under the 3+3+2 model together with the main applicant, and parents over the age of 60 will be issued a visa under the 2+2+3 model. After obtaining permanent status, parents over the age of 60 can come to Hong Kong to settle down.

24. What are the common misunderstandings in talent applications?
-
【Misconception 1: Talented people need to give up their mainland Chinese identity?】
-
After being approved as a Hong Kong talent, you will get a Hong Kong resident identity card while retaining your mainland identity. If you renew your visa for 7 years, you can choose to change to a Hong Kong permanent resident identity card + SAR passport, or you can choose not to change your permanent resident identity card and continue to renew your visa. In terms of public welfare such as education and medical care, the two are basically the same.
-
【Misconception 2: Talented people need to come to Hong Kong to work? 】
-
The Quality Talent Visa does not compel applicants to work in Hong Kong, nor does it have clear regulations or restrictions on the length of time an applicant can stay in Hong Kong. Such flexibility actually gives applicants a great deal of freedom.
-
【Myth 3: Will the Talent Program affect children’s studies in the Mainland?】
-
After a child obtains a Hong Kong identity card, it will not affect his or her normal studies in schools on the Mainland, and parents can also bring their children to Hong Kong for education.
